About Us

The Cobargo Bushfire Resilience Centre Inc. (Resilience Cobargo) is a not-for-profit Incorporated Association and registered charity with ACNC.

We are 100% community owned, controlled and operated by local volunteers.

Resilience Cobargo emerged as the keystone rebuild and recovery project for the Cobargo main street in the aftermath of the Badja Forest Road Fire on NYE 2019.

The Resilience Cobargo construction project was prompted by a donation of land to build a commemorative community facility, and the construction was subsequently funded by the state and federal governments through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.

In 2024 Cobargo builder Jason Miles was awarded the contract to construct the bespoke Centre designed by local architects Takt Studio. Construction commenced in March 2024, and principal construction was completed 30 June 2025.

The Cobargo Bushfire Resilience Centre contains flexible multi-use exhibition spaces, commemorative courtyard garden, theatrette, street front café, and a retail space and features a distinctive sho sugi ban façade, rough-hewn ironbark structure, and a corrugated copper cloak.

The core function of Resilience Cobargo is to develop and deliver programs, activities, exhibitions and events that support local social and economic recovery, and revival and build resilience.

The Cobargo Bushfire Resilience Centre at 70 Princes Highway Cobargo is due to open in 2026
