Welcome to Cobargo

Djirringanj Yuin Country

Cobargo is a small inland village in the Bega Valley on the far south coast of NSW, Australia.

The Djirringanj Yuin people are the traditional custodians of the land where European settlers established the village in the late 1820s. Agriculture has been the primary economic activity of the Cobargo region with tourism contributing to the local business landscape since the 1980s. Both the internationally renown Cobargo Folk Festival and the Cobargo Show are held annually in the village.

On 31 December 2019 Cobargo was heavily impacted by the Badja Forest Road Fire.
Over three hundred homes were lost in the greater Cobargo district and twenty-five percent of village homes were destroyed including one-third of the buildings on the village main street.
Recovery has been difficult and slow as the hills surrounding the village show.

One of the more surprising things about Cobargo is its high proportion of not-for-profits, co-ops and social enterprises operating on the main street. These include: Well Thumbed Books,
Cobargo Creators, Lazy Lizard Gallery, Bowerbird Op Shop, Valiant Coffee, Cobargo Commons, and the Cobargo Co-op which has been community owned since 1901.
This is part of what makes Cobargo a special place to live and a great place to visit.

So what are you waiting for?
